Today in a move that rivals any playground takeover in history, Facebook has launched its deals program in 5 test cities. So if you live in San Diego, San Francisco, Atlanta, Dallas or Austin; you too can be part of the death of Groupon and other coupon/deal serving sites. Whereas Groupon/other had to build a social network from a deal granting system, Facebook already has the massive network. Simply put, introduce deals, profit enormously. It seems Facebook has said, we couldn’t buy your idea, so we improved it, now get out of my market.
I don’t see the test markets holding a monopoly on Daily Deals for very long. Expect explosive market expansion to accompany the explosive profits.
